Video Recap- Creation in a Time of Disruption: How COVID-19 is Driving Innovation

City Tech Collaborative • Jul 20, 2020

Missed our panel on how the startup, tech, and innovation communities are addressing the pandemic and positioning for a post-pandemic world? Watch the recording of the event below.

About the event:

Legendary economist Joseph Schumpeter coined the term “creative destruction” to describe the critical role entrepreneurs play in launching new products and improving the quality of life. Schumpeter emphasized creation, but in the last generation, historian Jill Lepore writes, “everyone is either disrupting or being disrupted. There are disruption consultants, disruption conferences, and disruption seminars.” One post in Forbes, even warned about “devastating innovation.”

Look out your window. Look at your own business and industry. The COVID-19 pandemic has done the work for today’s entrepreneurs, disrupting daily life and the economy in unimaginable ways. Might this be the moment when entrepreneurs can take back the notion of innovation by returning “creative” to its traditional, lead position? What does it mean when public safety, community, sustainability, and technology intersect in new ways, and how do we use this opportunity to create lasting impact?

These concepts of innovation and disruption are explored in Innovation on Tapwhich invites 25 entrepreneurs, living and departed, to a virtual barroom where they share stories of innovation across three centuries of American history.

Watch the July 17, 2020 event below as three of the entrepreneurs featured in Innovation on Tap share their insights on how the startup, tech, and innovation communities are addressing the pandemic and positioning for a post-pandemic world.
