About the event:

City Tech joined the International Parking & Mobility Institute 's 2021 Mobility & Innovation Summit on February 24-25, 2021

The space between city sidewalks and streets has become a battle ground for the future of urban mobility. Curbs are increasingly essential to emerging mobility and logistics business models, yet antiquated curb management practices are holding back exciting new industries. Traditional uses of curb space in cities–including buses, taxis, freight deliveries, bike lanes, and parking–now compete with ride-share, same-day deliveries, dockless vehicles, and other new transportation modes and services. This competition creates bottlenecks at and around the curb as well as safety concerns for pedestrians and drivers trying to navigate crowded streets. A lack of curb space translates to a lack of parking and/or loading zones, which disrupts nearby business by complicating the customer experience and limiting the efficiency of commercial deliveries and general operations. Modern needs and opportunities stand to transform curbs from inert infrastructure into dynamic and valuable nodes in our urban transportation systems.

This panel presentation gathered mobility, data and analytics, modeling, and infrastructure experts to explore solutions to help cities and their constituents understand, allocate, and manage curbside space more effectively.
